The Kwazulu-Natal Marine Educational Tour will be in the Durban area, South Africa. This fun and adventure filled tour has been compiled to make sure that the participants will experience and participate in activities that will bring them closer to nature. Not only will they experience great adventures but they will also gain insight knowledge of marine wildlife and marine conservation.

Professional registered service providers host all activities and client safety is always the number one priority. Expect superior knowledge and professionalism from our guides; they are experienced in the Wildlife & Environmental management, Nature conservation and Tourism industries and registered with the Field Guides Association of South Africa and South African Tourism.

Day 1 –Kwazulu-Natal and Waterfall – (B, L, D)

We leave early from Pretoria and head southeast towards Kwazulu-Natal. Along the way we will stop at a waterfall and enjoy the views of diverse scenery as it changes towards the coast. Arriving mid afternoon we’ll have enough time to visit the beach and experience some waves, sand and sun. We will be here for the next 5 nights.

Day 2 & 3 – Marine Conservation and Species identification – (B, L, D)

Nothing makes you feel more alive than getting closer to Nature and we see how we can contribute to help conserve and manage marine life. We gain some knowledge on the basics of marine ecology, animal behaviour, how we could be part of marine conservation and animal protection. We get the opportunity to visit the world renowned Ushaka Marine World to build our knowledge about sea birds, various fish species and marine animals.

Day 4 – Kwazulu-Natal Coastline and Durban – (B, L, D)

Today we will be taking a boat ride to see how sharks are managed along East Coast of South Africa. Our host will point out various methods used and we’ll hopefully enjoy some shark spotting during our time on the boat. We spend the afternoon along one of the South Coast beaches enjoying the sun and waves.

Day 5 – Umkomaas river rafting and beach – (B, L, D)

An adventurous day ahead of us as we head for the Umkomaas river. Arriving mid-morning we receive our life jackets and safety helmets before heading down to the river. Our professional river guides will teach us the basics of river rafting and safety. No prior experience is needed for the river rafting as we are only going through class 2 – 3 rapids. (Special permission from Parents or legal guardian required). From the Umkomaas river we go and enjoy the beach one last time.

Day 6 – Homebound – (B, L)

A relaxed start today as we head inland to go back home after the Kwazulu-Natal Marine Educational Tour. We should arrive back in Gauteng late afternoon.

Pick-up points:

  • Times and pick-up points to be confirmed. Usually early morning.

Drop-off points:

  • Times and drop-off points to be confirmed. Usually mid- to late afternoon.

  • 50% (R 4 750) deposit is required to confirm your booking
  • The outstanding amount (R 4 750) is required 30 days before departure

Please note that all bank charges and transfer fees are for the clients account. Bushward Safaris requires the full amount of R 9 500 per student. We know that some banks can’t transfer the exact amount with foreign currency transfers. Should this be the case we can make an arrangement that the outstanding balance is paid to Bushward Safaris either on the day of departure in cash or by EFT. Should it be the case that an amount of more than R 9 500 was paid to Bushward Safaris we will refund the student on the day of departure in cash.

  • Comfortable clothes – it is recommended that your shoulders are not exposed to the sun.
  • Clothes that can get wet when we are on the boat and when we go river rafting
  • Underwear and socks
  • Comfortable shoes – also shoes that can get wet when we go river rafting – not flipflops

  • Warm clothes – even though it is not as cold as Europe and other parts in the world it can still become quit chilly in the evenings.

  • Personal medication which includes: headache tablets, pain killers, diarrhoea tables and nausea tablets.

  • Electrical adapter – which includes adapters for two prong appliances. Our wall sockets are round, 3 prong, 15 amp units (not square as in the USA). Your plug set should contain a converter so that any equipment you bring along which usually runs on 110volts for example, can be converted to 220 – 240 Volts.
  • Cell phone and charger

  • Small backpack for the day that can hold a jacket, lunch pack and water bottle

  • Binoculars – please do not go and buy if you don’t have one
